I recently had my first baby shower. My mother-in-law was in charge of the fruit platter, so she asked me to help her create something unique.
This is what we came up with.
It is actually a pretty simple process, so I thought I would share with you how we made this cute little baby bassinet.
We were going to use a large watermelon and make the babies head a cantaloupe, but we couldn’t find large watermelons. We went with a smaller seedless one and made the head a grapefruit.
#1. Carve the watermelon. We used a ribbon and a marker to make the marks in the watermelon and then we started cutting.
#2. Gut your watermelon. We decided that we would use melon ballers and scooped out all of the watermelon. We also used a melon baller for some cantaloupe and honeydew. You can use whatever fruit would like.
Obviously you will have more fruit than you need, but you can always use it to refill your bassinet.
#3. Begin Assembly- We added in some of the fruit balls back into the bassinet in order to make the “baby” head sit up high in the watermelon. We also cut out a small hole in the grapefruit so that the pacifier would stay in the grapefruit.
#4. Make the baby face- Use toothpicks to hold the blueberry eyes and cantaloupe nose.
#5. Decorate your platter with your favorite fruits. I also added lettuce leaves on the bottom of the platter to help with “filler”
Try it out! If you have a creative idea for a baby shower, I would love to hear it. I am sure I have some close friends (hint, hint) that will soon be having babies of their own :)
